After Curtis Jones excelled for the England Under-21 team, Jurgen Klopp may need to turn to a forgotten player to try to solve some of his midfield problems at Liverpool.

Just seven league appearances have been made by the Reds academy product thus far in the current season, failing to have any kind of significant impact at Anfield.

While some of that has been brought on by injuries, Jones has also frequently been passed over because of his decline in the midfield hierarchy.

Recent instances of Jones failing to make the matchday squad or even come off the bench are countless.

His last complete 90 minutes in the Premier League were played in the 1–0 loss away at newly promoted Nottingham Forest in October of last year.

The six-time European champions have consistently been linked with a move for Chelsea star Mason Mount, which would undoubtedly send a clear message to Jones about his own future at Anfield.

Jones recently discussed how his goals have changed for this season as a result of a dismal campaign on both an individual and team level.

"For me personally, at the beginning of the season, I was talking about goals and assists," he said, according to the ECHO.

I've reached the point where I want to stay in shape, play as many games as I can, and contribute as much as I can to the team.

You have to understand the defensive aspect of the game, which was challenging for me because I prefer to attack so much. I've reached the stage where I'm putting my game together in balance.

Jones has played in just five minutes of football in all competitions since making those remarks. He made his debut during the last stanzas of the astonishing 7-0 victory over fierce rivals Manchester United.

Tottenham, who are now in fourth position but have played two more games than Liverpool, are seven points behind them in the standings. As the season draws to a close, Jones might yet play a crucial role.
